Since 1951, the YMCA has been a stronghold in Cecil County. According to an August 14, 1952, Cecil Whig article, the Y’s summer programs drew attendance larger than the population of Elkton (then 5,376) the first year of operation.
It was a monumental achievement for a small organization operating from the second floor of the Town of Elkton’s Community Building.
